Building the ecosystem and community to ensure traction and impact of metals as an energy carrier in the world.

Since its founding in 2015, Metalot has taken an independent role to help scale the technology from small experiments to what is visible today. We are proud to see the continuously growing number of players in the ecosystem, the many global studies and the emergence of a whole new market. At the same time, we realize that there are still many challenges ahead of us. That is why we are more convinced than ever to make the Metal Power Community stronger and more extensive. All aimed at creating and/or integrating metals as an energy carrier into the market and value chains.

Four crucial objectives...

1. Technology readiness level pushHard skill
Stimulate the development of individual components

2. (Inter)national collaborations
Facilitate collaborations on all levels to enable worldwide application

3. Community building
Create a community with a diversity of participants to form a collective voice towards the world

4. Societal readiness level push | Soft skill
Create conditions to embed the innovation in society

... together with six powerful tools

1. Fieldlabs
Facilitating and making lab space available to research institutions and participants in the ecosystem to enable experiments and further development of applications aimed at scaling up to a maximum of TRL 5

2. Livinglabs
Bringing together and showcasing the capabilities of the technology the ecosystem can offer in real world conditions. For example: the HOLON concept focusses on the smallest possible scale full cycle application

3. Regulations
Ensure that legislation and regulations become receptive to metals as sustainable energy carriers

4. Funding
Maintain an ecosystem roadmap and compile projects and consortia for execution

5. R&D
Provide feedback to R&D institutions through input from end users, policymakers and the ecosystem

6. Human Capital Agenda
Through our strong connection with education and industry, we create a learning environment for all levels of education to work on the technology of tomorrow

As Metalot we were the first to put irons in the fire

2015
Iron Power as an energy carrier discovered First ideas regarding the use of metal combustion as an energy carrier thanks to Prof. Jeffrey Bergthorson and Prof. Philip de Goey. Together they were convinced that this will have a major impact.
2016
Demonstration of 0.1 MW burner
2020
World's first iron powder burner at Swinkels/Bavaria
World's first start-up RIFT was founded
Future Energy Lab in Budel established
2021
Swinkels/Bavaria success story used as showcase for the world
2022
Further development of complete installation up to 0.2 MW Development of a complete installation up to 0.2 MW consisting of a burner and storage system for sustainable energy into a complete cycle
World's second start-up Iron+ was founded
2023
Burner and reduction system up to 0.5 MW Burner and reduction system further developed and tested at Swinkels/Bavaria up to 0.5 MW
First large international end-user members joined Uniper, ArcelorMittal, Holcim
2024
Operational pilot plant of 1MW+ In collaboration with Iron+ working on the basis of a pilot plant consisting of an operational installation with a burner and reduction system with a capacity of 1MW +
2025
Further expand and strengthen technological and social support on EU and worldwide scale Global deployment of our acquired knowledge and built lobbying power aimed at integrating the technology into today's energy landscape as a sustainable energy solution
