Retrospective Metalot@Work 22 March

On March 22, 2023 the first in a series of 4 sessions was held to present the state of the art on Iron Power to our community. This first session focused on the opening cycle of Iron Power: Burning iron powder to generate high temperature heat.

Metalot@Work is made possible in part by:

Iron Power

We were all dipped into the Metalot Iron Power vision by Tim Spee, program manager at Metalot, immediately followed by a combi presentation by Jesse Hameete and Giel Ramaekers (both on TU/e PhD) who respectively shared insights on the experimental and numerical reseach on Iron Power. This was the deep dive down to atoms scale in understanding iron powder oxidation.

Team Solid

After the break the focus shifted from vision and R&D towards practical application. Team Solid pitched a next generation concept called Steam Iron and proudly presented the nearly finished test bed for first assessment tests that will be carried out in the Metalot H2 lab.

Industrial pilots by Rift & Iron Plus

After Steam Iron pitch, Vincent Seijger, CTO of RIFT presented the efforts, roadmap and first results on the industrial pilot installation for district heating as installed in the city of Helmond. Niek Van Rooij (on TU/e PHD) shared the testresults obtained with the MP200 combustion installation at the Metalot Field Lab in Budel. Henk Ouwerkerk (Heatpower) and Guy Willems (EM Group) shared the latest on MP200 upgrades prior to subjecting the installation to a next real life, long duration test at Swinkels Family brewers.

Network

Plenty of questions and answers were exchanged and not to forget: many of us went home with at least one new contact, one new idea and one or more resulting action(s). Great to see all these Iron Power ambassadors at work during the networking and drinks part of the session. And precisely that gives immense energy to the people at Metalot to continue building a worldclass community on Iron Power. You made our day and we conclude that all participants also had a great day. For those that were not able to participate at this session a recording of the presentations will be made available by request. Click here to apply for the recording.
